This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
France's Salmson 2A2, of which 29 were imported to Japan for teaching purposes in 1919, was officially adopted as an Sa-type 2 reconnaissance aircraft by the Army; 51 more were imported in 1921, and it was renamed the Otsu-1. At the same time, the Army began domestic production of this aircraft, and after completing the first of them at the end of 1920 under the pretext of repair, the Air Supply Department produced about 300 more. At this time, the Army had acquired the license manufacturing rights for the engine but not the aircraft itself; Salmson protested this as patent infringement, but Kawasaki was able to help reconcile the two sides. Kawasaki Shipyard's Airplane Department also obtained licenses for both the engine and the aircraft, and received instructions from the Army for domestic production, completing two prototypes in 1922, and produced about 300 of the aircraft by 1927. This was the first mass-produced aircraft in Kawasaki, with about 900 total production. It was active as a man reconnaissance aircraft until the appearance of the 88-type reconnaissance aircraft in 1928, and was used by front-line units until about 1933. Some of this aircraft participated in the Manchurian Incident and the January 28 Incident, and after retiring from the front line, many were sold to the private sector and were used by flight schools and newspapers.
