Description

This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

The first jet trainer developed in Japan after World War II was the T-1. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force needed a secondary jet training aircraft for the postwar pilot training program, and the decision was made to develop a domestic jet trainer. Developed by Fuji Heavy Industries, the T-1 has a tandem layout seat arrangement, and an ambitious design adopting a swept wing. The first prototype made its first flight in 1958. The domestic turbojet engine known as J3 was also completed; when mass production began at Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries began, the T-1's engine was converted to the new domestic J3. The T-1 equipped with this engine was named T-1B, and 20 of this aircraft were produced and deployed from 1962 to 1963. The T-1 ended its role in 1998 when its successor, the T-4, was deployed. The T-1B, which was operated by the Air Development and Test Wing, carried out its last flight at Gifu Air Base on March 2, 2006, after which it was retired. The 810th aircraft, which made the last flight, was a modified T-1A from the time the T1-B was developed.

This model kit replicates the T-1B type equipped with a domestic engine. Special decals by Cartograf are included for the 810th machine that made the final flight before its retirement at Gifu Air Base.
