This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.
The F-1 was the first domestically produced fighter aircraft after the war, developed as a fighter for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force to protect the skies of Japan. It was developed based on the T-2, the first supersonic advanced trainer aircraft developed independently in Japan. The first mass-produced version of the F-1 made its first flight in 1977, and began operation that same year. It was active in Japan's air defense for 29 years, until 2006. It was equipped with two TF40-IHI-801A turbofan engines made by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. It boasted a maximum speed of Mach 1.6. It was armed with a 20mm Vulcan cannon, and could also operate various bombs and rockets. In addition, it would be equipped with the domestically produced ASM-1 air-to-ship missile, demonstrating its high capabilities as a multi-role fighter. The 6th Squadron of the 8th Air Wing, which was established on August 1, 1959 as an F-86F unit at Chitose Air Base, was converted to an F-1 squadron on February 28, 1981 and put into operation.
This model kit from Platz reproduces the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's F-1 support fighter in 1/72 scale. This kit models the first F-1, aircraft number 70-8201, which was specially painted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the 6th Squadron in 1999. The camouflage-painted aircraft reproduces the markings with colorful commemorative paint on the vertical tail. The tail markings are provided as large decals made by Cartograf of Italy, which is well-known for its high quality, making for a beautiful, eye-catching finish! Of course, each part of the aircraft is reproduced in great detail down to the panel lines, realistically reproducing its sharp shape. Details such as the landing gear are also delicately modeled to enhance the realism of the finished product; the interior of the cockpit is a standout for its fine level of detail. This is a must-have kit for any SDF fan's collection -- order yours today!
