The F8F-1 became operational with VF- 19 on February 26, 1945. A total of 19 squadrons received the machines , but the U.S. Navy was not able to use combat because of the end of war. F8F -1 was the first aircraft flew by U.S. Navy aerobatic team - Blue Angels. In 1949, phase out of piston engined fighters on board of US Navy carriers began. Replaced by Jet fighters F9F, Bearcats were transferred to training and reserve units. They were used in combat in 1951-1954 in the French Indochina only. French Air Force took part there in the fight against the Viet Minh guerrillas. A detachment of Bearcats from GC 1/22 " Saintonge " stationed in the Dien Bien Phu fortress, but all aircraft were destroyed on the ground by enemy fire when siege started. F8F from other units led raids on enemy positions, but failed the struggle to eliminate of his artillery. After the fall of the fortress Dien Bien Phu war was lost. F8F however, remained in the region after serving in the Air Force of South Vietnam and Thailand.
