The Dornier Wal (German for "whale"), which had its first flight in 1924, is a high-wing monoplane, twin-engine flying boat. Sturdy thanks to the use of corrugated sheets on the wings and upper part of its full-metal body, its long cruising distance lent itself not only to military use, but also to the use of many private airlines and record flights.
The Dornier Do J in Japan: A single aircraft was imported by Japan Air Transport from Italy where it was produced in 1927, it became the first passenger flying boat. Afterwards, Japan Air Transport purchased two more Wal aircrafts which were produced under licensing at a Kawasaki shipyard, which were put into use flying the Seto Inland Sea Route between Osaka and Fukuoka.
Upon completion this model measures about 240mm long and 313mm wide.
