Adapted from the manufacturer:
In spite of the fact that some tanks were mounted with serial BT-7 45mm guns, work on equipping them with the 76.2mm KT-28 gun were carried out. Such tanks received the designation BT-7A (artillery). By the end of 1937, 155 such tanks were manufactured. They came to artillery battalions in support of tank units. Combat use of BT-7 tanks in fights on the Halkhin-Gol River in the spring and summer of 1939 were the most successful. BT-7 tanks also participated in the partition of Poland, as well as in the Baltics and Bessarabia. Heavier trials had fallen to a lot of these tanks during the Soviet-Finnish War. By the end of the Great Patriotic War, BT-7 tanks were a part of the majority of the mechanised corps. However, they couldn't show worthy resistance to the coming forces of the Wehrmacht that led to unfairly large losses of BT-7 tanks. These tanks participated in active combat actions until the summer of 1942. A total of 155 BT-7A tanks were made during their total years of production.
