Description

This is a resin-cast military vehicle model kit.

The ARL-44 is a French heavy tank produced just after World War II. After France surrendered in 1940, it was forbidden to develop new tanks, but some of the French tank engineers kept working in secret, and Paris was then liberated in 1944. The newly born French government decided to start tank production immediately, and the ARL-44 heavy tank was to be the main tank.

"ARL" stands for Atelier de Construction de Rueil, who was responsible for the development of this vehicle. "44" indicates that development began in 1944.

The ARL-44 was based on the ARL-40, which was designed by Rueil Co., Ltd. before the war. The main gun was supposed to be a new 75mm long gun, but a 90mm long gun that was not yet operated by Allied forces was adopted, exceeding the American 76mm gun and the British 17-pound gun.

Development work on the ARL-44 proceeded at a rapid pace, but the mockup was completed when Germany surrendered in May 1945. The French government continued work on the tank, and in 1949, 60 tanks were completed; they were deployed in 1950. The 1951 French Revolution Memorial Parade was their first and last public appearance.

This kit will be about 14.6cm  long and 4.7cm wide when completed; decals are included.
