Description

This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.

Under the leadership of President Kennedy, the Apollo Project successfully landed the first human being on the moon. After returning from outer space, the Apollo command module parachutes into the Pacific Ocean for a safe landing, and a helicopter headed out from a nearby aircraft carrier to retrieve the crew and capsule. The helicopter used was a Sikorsky SH-3, in operation since 1961 and active in various missions for the U.S. Navy. This helicopter, with the aircraft number 66 and known as Helo 66, was originally deployed in 1967, and was used for the Apollo 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13 missions. The image of Helo 66 hovering over the surface of the sea and safely pulling the crew onboard was seen by millions on TV, and has become an iconic image of the Space Race.

This model kit from Dragon's Space Collection recreates the historic moment of the SH-3D Helo 66 hovering over the ocean's surface and preparing to hoist the Apollo crew to safety. The helicopter itself, the Apollo command module (complete with pontoon and rubber raft), and even the equipment used to carry the crewmembers safely up to the helicopter are all carefully modeled and reproduced. Think how awesome this kit would be built up and displayed together with photographs of the Apollo crew's retrieval! Order yours today!
