This large tripe-shaft amphibious vehicle was developed during WWII for the US armed forces. The aim was to build a vehicle that could supply ammunition, food, and other materials to invading troops occupying beachheads on enemy soil immediately after landing. The DUKW offered good navigating qualities and could move well off-road, too. Combined with its high load capacity, this allowed the DUKW to perform its logistic role to the fullest.
