An Excellent Gun Often Referred to as the Italian Version of the 88mm Gun
The Cannone da 90/53 modello 39 is a 90mm anti-aircraft gun designed and developed by the Ansaldo company of the Kingdom of Italy.
The first prototype was completed in 1939 and was officially adopted by the Royal Italian Army in the same year, leading to mass production.
This gun demonstrated high performance as an anti-tank weapon, similar to the German 8.8 cm FlaK 18/36/37.
As a result, after Italy's unconditional surrender in 1943, it was requisitioned by the German Wehrmacht and assigned the captured weapon codes of 9 cm Flak 41(i) or 9 cm Flak 309/1(i).
Some were sent to Germany for air defense, but the majority of the requisitioned guns were used on the Italian front.
