This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
The light cruiser Houston was commissioned in 1943 as a Cleveland-class light cruiser.
She was originally named Vicksburg, but was renamed Houston in honor of the heavy cruiser Houston, which was lost in the Battle of Batavia in 1942.
During the war, she fought in the Pacific theater, and after being damaged by a torpedo during an air battle off Taiwan in October 1944, she returned to Ulsea Air Base and, after emergency repairs, was docked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard when the war ended.
Houston was awarded three battle stars for his service in World War II.
The kit consists of an injection plastic body with decals for the "Standard Version" (this item), and the "Deluxe Version" includes the contents of the "Standard Version" with additional etching, metal gun barrels, deck mask stickers, etc.
This kit is a wonderful reproduction of the Houston as it appeared in 1944 in fine detail in a marine model.
