This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Commissioned too late to take part in any action in WWII, the USS Antietam was later recommissioned in 1951 and deployed to support actions during the conflict on the Korean peninsula. After that conflict she served as an aviation training ship stationed in Pensacola, Florida. She was finally decommissioned in 1973, struck from the registry that year, and sold for scrap in 1974.
This kit of the Korean War-era Antietam from Dragon (Cyber Hobby here in Japan) is sharply molded in crisp gray styrene, and features two nice frets of photo-etched metal detail parts. Bridge parts and the air wing are molded in clear styrene to better replicate windows and canopies. The flight deck is also molded in clear plastic if you want to show off the interior detail. Can be built full-hull or waterline, and includes a stand with nameplate to be used when building it full-hull. Korean War-era air wing includes Sikorsky HO3S-1 helicopters, Corsairs, Skyraiders, Cougars, Panthers, and Banshees, most featuring positionable folding wings and separate landing gear parts. A comprehensive sheet of decals and six moto-tug towing tractors round out the detail.
