Pit-Road brings back its 1/700-scale kit of the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier CV-2 Lexington, as seen in 1942! The Lexington was originally planned as a Constellation-class battle cruiser with ten 36cm guns and a speed of 35 knots, but the Washington Naval Treaty limited the number of seats on battleships and battle cruisers. Together with the battle cruiser Saratoga, it underwent a design change, and was put into service as an aircraft carrier in December 1927. The Lexington escaped the attack at Pearl Harbor with the Saratoga and three Yorktown-class ships, and then contributed to the sinking of the Japanese aircraft carrier Shoho in the Battle of the Coral Sea -- the first battle between aircraft carriers in history -- in May 1942. The Lexington was unfortunately targeted by aircraft launched from the Shokaku and Zuikaku, causing a series of onboard fires; she was destroyed by torpedoes from the Porter-class destroyer Phelps to prevent her falling into enemy hands.
This model kit can be built as either a waterline or full-hull version; her 1942 appearance includes strengthened anti-aircraft armaments by removing the 20cm gun and adding 28mm 4-twin machine guns. Shipboard aircraft are also included. Order yours today!
Please note that the photo-etched parts included with the original release of this kit are not included.
