This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
The SMS Emden was laid down in 1906 as the second ship of the Dresden-class hall cruisers, launched in 1908 and commissioned in 1909. From August 1, during World War I, she single-handedly carried out a commerce sabotage operation in the Indian Ocean, capturing 23 merchant ships in less than three months. She also attacked Madras and Penang, sinking one destroyer and one cruiser -- an outstanding performance for a single cruiser. Her captain, Karl von Muller, treated the crews of captured merchant ships with unharmed courtesy throughout the campaign, and rescued the survivors of a sunken destroyer during the attack on Penang. His demeanor was admired even by his enemies.
On 9 November 1914, the Emden was spotted by the light cruiser Sydney while operating in the Cocos Islands with a landing force, and she was unable to contain the landing force and entered an artillery duel. The Emden, exhausted from her long voyage, was heavily damaged by the Sydney, which was larger, faster, and better armed. Realizing her defeat, Captain Muller deliberately grounded his ship and surrendered in order not to throw the crew overboard. After escaping the island by sailing ship, the remaining land force was picked up by a merchant ship on the way, and they landed in Yemen. They traveled north across the Arabian Peninsula to Damascus, Istanbul, and finally Berlin in May 1915. It took them half a year to return to Germany.
