This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

Aoshima's "Waterline" model-kit series has been renewed with even greater precision! The outfitting parts have been newly researched and designed; by incorporating numerous slide mechanisms into the molds, the intricate details of the 1/700 scale are reproduced with great accuracy. 

The Unyo was initially completed as the passenger ship Yawata Maru of Nippon Yusen, but was requisitioned and commissioned as a converted merchant ship aircraft carrier. Although she did not see significant action in naval battles, she played an active role in transporting troops and aircraft to Rabaul, Truk, and Southeast Asia, supporting the front lines. This kit features a well-designed parts configuration, making it simple and easy to assemble, yet accurate. Various outfitting parts, including the 25mm triple machine gun, have been newly designed and added, successfully expressing the precision and detail possible in 1/700 scale. Japanese Navy carrier-based aircraft are included, too.
