1/700 IJN Light Cruiser Yahagi (1944/1945)
A modern light cruiser of the Agano-class, Yahagi was commissioned at Sasebo Naval Arsenal in December 1943 as the class's third ship. Designed as the flagship of a destroyer squadron, the Agano-class was a clear departure from the older 5,500-ton light cruisers, featuring modernized hull lines and weaponry. Yahagi mounted three twin 15 cm guns and two newly developed long 8 cm twin high-angle guns.
After commissioning, Yahagi participated in major battles including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, during which her anti-aircraft armament was progressively reinforced. In April 1945, as flagship of the Second Torpedo Squadron, she accompanied battleship Yamato in Operation Ten-Ichi-Go, but was sunk en route to Okinawa under heavy U.S. carrier air attack, taking multiple torpedo and bomb hits.
