Description

This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

Kumano, one of the Seventh Squadron First Platoon that played an active role in the Dutch East Indies invasion operation at the beginning of the Pacific War, is now available with photo-etched parts! This 1/700-scale model kit has excellent detail reproduction thanks to its detailed parts division and delicate carving. The kit is based on the appearance of the Mogami-class No. 4 ship Kuman around 1942, before the lessons learned from the war were applied.

  • The side of the ship has a different hull cross-section shape from that of the Mogami or Mikuma, and uses special parts that represent her appearance during the first half of the war, when the portholes were not closed.
  • The external electric wiring is molded as a single unit into the hull, expressing a different equipment position that that of the Mogami or Mikuma.
  • The width of the ship near the shelter deck is expressed as 1mm wider than the Mogami or Mikuma.
  • The foremast is a special part for the 1942 specification, which had a command post added before the outbreak of the war and was not equipped with a radar.
  • The air defense command post has a separate part for the lookout binocular telescope, and the floor is precisely represented by carving a grating.
  • Transparent parts are provided for the bridge windows for a more realistic finish.
  • Bridge structure parts are used exclusively for the Kumano and Suzuya, which has a boiler room air intake next to the bridge.
  • Special parts are provided for the thin chimney, a characteristic of the Kumano and Suzuya.
  • The funnel cap is a molded part in a "loose" state.
  • The steam exhaust pipe is a separate part, enhancing the sense of precision.
  • The boiler room air intake under the chimney is reproduced with a special part, which has a different shape and size compared to the Mogami and Mikuma.
  • The machine gun turret next to the chimney is made with a special part with a shape exclusive to the Kumano and Suzuya.
  • The air intake behind the chimney, under the searchlight, is also made with a special part exclusive to the Kumano and Suzuya.
  • The linoleum deck is made with a special part, as the arrangement of the vents and equipment is different from that of the Mogami and Mikuma.
  • The 12.7cm twin high-angle gun mount is exclusive to the Kumano and Suzuya, which has a protrusion on the back of the mount.
  • The antenna support installed on the third and fourth main gun turret canopy is a special part that reproduces the unique shape of each ship.
  • The aft mast is a special part exclusive to Kumano, with a vertical top and a Y-shaped yard, which reproduces the differences from Suzuya.
  • The crane parts are different from those on the Suzuya, with lighter hole shapes with precise carving.
  • The side of the rear bridge reproduces the engine room intake and exhaust vents with a different shape from the Mogami, and special parts are available.
  • The shelter section where the torpedo tubes are equipped is three-dimensionalized based on official drawings, including the spare torpedo storage.
  • The catapult (Kure Type 2 Type 5) uses a slide mold to realistically reproduce the side and top shape.
  • The engine room intake and exhaust vents that were not present on the Mogami and Mikuma are made into parts on the aircraft work deck to express the difference in form.
  • The shipboard aircraft are molded in gray to improve workability, to prevent damage when cutting the gate.
  • One Type 0 (three-seater) floatplane and two Type 95 floatplanes are included.
  • Decals are included for markings such as the naval ensign, national flag, and the Japanese flag for aircraft carriers.
  • The assembly manual comes with a mini commentary that allows you to learn the names of the equipment and information about the actual ship while you work. The package box comes with a mini box paper craft so you can store the box after assembly.
  • The delicate equipment of the ship that cannot be expressed with injection plastic parts is reproduced with photo-etched parts, useful for more advanced detailing. The photo-etched parts include ladders, handrails, cranes, search tables, catapults, board davits, antenna supports, airplane transport rails, and more.
