Description

This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

Fujimi brings us a special-edition version of their Akagi (Plus Edition) model kit, which already includes precision outfitting parts -- now featuring additional photo-etched parts!

[Basic Specifications]:

  • Designed for assembly using glue, this kit features intricate detailing that prioritizes realistic sculpting.
  • Molded primarily in gray, the kit is designed for modelers to enjoy the painting process during assembly.
  • The kit depicts the ship as she appeared during the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941, and the Midway operation in June 1942.
  • It represents the ship following her major refit completed in 1938, with flight deck markings (decals) provided for the 1941 configuration.
  • Includes "Hinomaru" (rising sun) markings for friend-or-foe identification on the flight deck as used during the June 1942 Midway operation, allowing for assembly in that configuration.

[Structure, Specifications, and Features]:

  • The hull features a structure where the port and starboard sides are molded as a single unit.
  • Details such as the rearward-slanting profile, numerous portholes, and the complex shape of the hangar side walls are rendered using single-piece molded parts.
  • The flight deck is a single-piece structure featuring intricate molded details such as the wood planking, windbreak fences, and expansion joints.
  • The section at the rear of the ship where the flight deck is double-layered is reproduced with the lower deck as a separate part.
  • The elevators are provided as separate parts.
  • Areas such as the anchor chain deck and boat deck feature delicate molded details, including non-slip patterns and rail tracks.
  • The funnel consists of two parts joined vertically.
  • Floor details, such as the strip patterns on high-angle gun platforms, are rendered with fine molding.
  • The truss-style supports for the rear flight deck feature molded details on all four sides.
  • Major components, including the hull, bottom plate, and machine gun parts, are molded in gray.
  • Includes a total of four decal sheets covering three different variations. Includes one decal sheet for carrier-based aircraft markings.
  • Includes two decal sheets for the ship's name at the stern and white lines for the deck supports.
  • Includes one decal sheet featuring flight deck markings, naval ensigns, and the flight deck/friendly-force identification mark (Hinomaru) used during Operation Midway in June 1942.
  • Unlike the Standard (STD) version, the "Plus" version includes specific parts designed for enhanced realism.
  • The Plus specification includes replacement and additional parts, such as 9-meter cutters, 12-meter motor launches, 12-meter motor pinnaces, 13-meter special transport barges, the Imperial Chrysanthemum crest, 25mm anti-aircraft guns, and binocular telescopes.
  • Includes a total of 15 carrier-based aircraft: five each of the Zero Type 21, Type 99 Carrier Bomber, and Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber. The parts are molded in clear plastic to allow for a more realistic canopy finish.
  • Includes 25mm twin anti-aircraft guns (standard inclusion of 2018-tooled parts) featuring precise molding and a two-part structure that makes painting easier.
  • Includes binocular telescope parts for the bridge to enhance the detail of the anti-aircraft command post.
  • Includes photo-etched parts capable of rendering fine details that are difficult to reproduce with standard injection-molded parts.
  • The photo-etched set includes railings, ladders, bridge window frames, direction-finding antennas, funnel footrests, fall-prevention rails, boat davits, and more.
