The Shikinami was commissioned in 1932 as the 12th special-type (Fubuki-type) destroyer (ten ships from the Ayanami to the Ushio, the 11th ship, were also called special-type II). At the start of the war, the Shikinami, who belonged to the 19th Destroyer Division along with Isonami, Uranami, and Ayanami, fought in the Battle of Batabia in 1942, the 3rd SolomonBattle, and March 1943. Active in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea and escorting convoys, she was sunk by a torpedo attack from the U.S. Navy submarine Growler in the South China Sea in September 1944.
