Description

This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

This pairing of waterline kits from Tamiya features the IJN aircraft carrier Taiho and a Gato-class submarine (which also includes a Japanese sub-chaser). It was the Gato-class sub Albacore that sunk the Taiho with a torpedo attack on June 19, 1944, during the Battle of the Philippine Sea.

The Taiho portion of the kit is a 1972 tooling, but nevertheless still holds up to today's standards of molding and detail.

Gato/Submarine Chaser No. 13 kit: Tamiya has cleaned-up and re-released the old toolings they bought from Pit-Road (which they originally bought from Green Max) of the U.S. Gato submarine with a Japanese sub chaser. Comes with two of each vessel and a pair of little B-24 Liberators, too. Decals included for several boats.

This is a "twin-pack" set, pairing Tamiya's 1/700 IJN Taiho and Gato-Class Submarine/Japanese Sub-Chaser kits. With all the Gatos and sub-chasers you get, however, there are actually five ships in the box! AND two B-24s! Includes "ocean effect plate" seascape base (a wave-textured sheet of plastic, no holes for the ships included). A fitting tribute to an important event in naval history.
