This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
The Chitose was originally built as a seaplane carrier in 1938, with a view to converting it into an aircraft carrier. She participated in major operations as a seaplane carrier from the beginning of the war, but when the Japanese Navy lost four aircraft carriers at once in the Battle of Midway in 1942, the decision was made to remodel Chitose and her sister ship Chiyoda into aircraft carriers. She was completed at the Sasebo Arsenal in August 1943 as a 30-aircraft light aircraft carrier. After participating in the Battle of Mariana Gulf in June of the following year, she acted as a member of the Ozawa Fleet to attract the Halsey Fleet to help the Kurita Fleet enter Leyte Gulf in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October. Off Cape Engano, she was subjected to a fierce attack by the U.S. task force, and was sunk by three direct hits by over 50 U.S. carrier-based aircraft.
This offshore model kit from Pit-Road comes with nine carrier-based aircraft: three each of the Zero Fighter Type 21 bombers (with 250kg bomb parts added), Zero Fighter Type 52, and Tenzan Kanko. Order yours today!
