Jean Barre, the last battleship of the French navy, was built in 1936, before the outbreak of World War II, and escaped to Casablanca, Morocco in 1940 after the French surrender in order to avoid seizure by the Germans. The construction work is carried out there as an Allied force under the French Navy under the German occupation.
In 1942, she was engaged by the U.S. Navy during the Allied landings in Morocco, and the war ended with her on the bottom.
She was commissioned in 1955 and participated in the invasion of the Suez Canal Zone during the Suez Crisis in October 1956.
It was decommissioned in August 1957 and dismantled in 1970.
