This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Commissioned in August 1941, the 29,800-ton displacement Shokaku was one of the aircraft carriers that participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Shokaku then saw action in the Battle of Coral Sea, where it sustained heavy damage. After repairs, it also fought in the Battle of the Eastern Solomons and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. The Shokaku finally met its demise during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, when it was sunk by torpedoes and bombs while refueling its aircraft.
Nichimo's veteran kit is molded in dark gray styrene, with no more flash on the sprues than you'd expect from a kit of this vintage (1970s?). Details aren't as sharply molded as more modern efforts either, but when it's all said and done you'll have a nice big full-hull model of the Shokaku when completed! Includes a full complement of Zeroes, Jills, and Vals for your flight deck, plus a nice base with turned brass pillars for a stand. The kit can be motorized, and comes with everything you need to do it...EXCEPT the motor (and batteries, of course)!
