This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.
The EA-18G, nicknamed "Growler," is an electronic warfare aircraft developed and operated by the U.S. Navy as a successor to the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. It was based on the U.S. Navy fighter F/A-18F Super Hornet, and production started in 2007; it was officially put into operation in 2009. The Growler requires two crewmembers -- the WSO (weapon system officer) sits behind the pilot. An AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jammer (TJS) pod, an AN/ALQ-218(V) radio frequency receiving system, and an AN/ALQ-227 communications countermeasures set are installed; two General Electric F414-GE-400 turbofan engines allow it to demonstrate a maximum speed close to Mach 1.8. This equipment allows the Growler to counter enemy air defense (SEAD) aircraft. It is also deployed and active in the U.S. Navy's electronic warfare unit VAQ-132 Scorpions, deployed in Japan.
Platz and Italeri collaborate to bring us this spectacular 1/48-scale model kit of the EA-18G Growler, the U.S. Navy's current electronic warfare aircraft! This kit builds into a sizeable model with plenty of presence. In addition to the easy-to-assemble parts configuration unique to Italeri, Platz provides an instruction manual in Japanese, as well as a convenient masking seal for painting the canopy frame. Decals are included for the VAQ-132 Scorpion squadron deployed at Misawa base in Japan, too, including the katakana "Scorpions" from the CAG aircraft seen in 2021, and the markings that evoke the image of the Rising Sun flag on the tail.
