Adapted from the manufacturer:
The Voyager 1 and 2 unmanned space probes were launched into space in 1977 as part of the Voyager program. Voyager 1 has long since garnered the record for "the man-made object farthest from Earth," having escaped from the solar system and moved into interstellar space navigation in August 2012. Voyager 2 has so far approached Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and had conducted interstellar space missions in the heliosphere after completing planetary exploration. And in November 2018, it was announced that Voyager 2 reached interstellar space outside the heliosphere, following Voyager 1.
Onboard both Voyager probes are gold-plated copper records titled "Sounds of Earth." Recorded on them are various sounds from nature, as well as greetings in 55 different languages. These records were attached to the Voyager probes in anticipation that they may someday be found and decoded by intelligent extraterrestrial life.
This snap-together kit includes 3 different-scale reproductions of the Golden Record -- 1/6, 1/12 and 1/48 -- as photo-etched metal parts. A figure of a small alien is also included, with another Golden Record in scale to it! A dome base for display is also included, resembling Earth.
