The P-47 Thunderbolt is a reciprocating single-engine fighter developed by Republic of the United States and operated by the United States Army Air Forces. This machine, which appeared in the latter half of World War II, was active in the European front as the main fighter of the U.S. military, along with the P-51, and the total number production machines in the series reached 15,660. The P-47B, which first flew in 1941, weighed about 4,500kg, and was equipped with an air-cooled 18-cylinder star-shaped P&W R-2800 Double Wasp engine with an output of about 2,000 horsepower. It was considered a threat by German pilots when it participated as an escort fighter for the B-17 heading for German bombing. In addition, the eight Browning 50-caliber machine guns -- four on each side -- boasted tremendous firepower at the time.
