In the early 1990s, the Challenger 2 emerged as the British Army's main battle tank, replacing the Chieftain and Challenger 1. A newly designed turret is mounted on a body based on the Challenger 1, and the main gun is a 120mm rifle gun with a state-of-the-art fire control system. In the 2003 Iraq War, it was refurbished for desert warfare; the garrison T-54 and T-55 were defeated one after another, contributing to the early termination of the situation.

This model kit from Tamiya includes the Challenger 2's characteristic advanced style, modeled with easy-to-assemble parts. Additional armor and side skirts are included to reflect the desert specifications of the tank; the tracks are connected with straight parts. Decals are used to represent the periscope and combat identification panel on the front of the turret, as well as markings for one version; a half-body figure of a tank commander is included too.
