Description

This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.

Limited-release of a rare Zero variation, the existence of which was only confirmed recently by the discovery of a single photograph. The Zero Model 54/64 was the product of an effort to address the performance problems of the Zero Model 52 Hei -- overweighed by repeated modifications -- by replacing the Model 52's Sakae 21 engine with the more powerful Mitsubishi Kinsei Model 62. This resulted in an extensively modified cowling and nose for the aircraft. The carburetor intake was much larger, a long duct like that on the Nakajima B6N Tenzan was added, and a large spinner -- like that on the Yokosuka D4Y Suisei with the Kinsei 62 -- was mounted. Armament was unchanged from the Model 52 Hei (20mm cannon x 2; 13mm MG x 2). In addition, the Model 64 was modified to carry two 150-liter drop tanks on either wing in order to permit the mounting of a 250kg bomb on the underside of the fuselage. Two prototypes were completed in 1945 and production was ordered following flight testing, but the war ended before any production began.

The kit includes resin cowl, propeller, bomb, and other parts (by Jaguar of the U.S.) to modify the older Hasegawa Zero Model 52 kit into this version.
