This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
Hasegawa goes back to Japanese aircraft with their all-new Shiden. Derived from the Kyofu seaplane fighter, the Shiden was a large and powerful land-based fighter used by the IJN in the last year of the war. We have compared this to the 1/48 Shiden released a couple of years ago by That Other Big Japanese Model Company, and the first thing that stands out is the dramatic difference in the number of parts! If you are one of those that thinks more parts equals more detail, well in this case you would be right. Or at least, finer detail. As compared to That Other Company's Shiden, the surface detail is a lot more complete and more finely done, as is the cockpit and landing gear detail. More care will doubtless be needed in assembly, but the finished product will look very good indeed. Decals are included for three aircraft, one from the 201st Flying Group based on Luzon, one from the Yatabe Flying Group at Tsukuba Airbase and the Shiden prototype as tested at the Naval Air Technical Section at Yokosuka.
