Description

This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.

Eduard's Hellcat series continues with this -5 version. These kits are reknowned for their detail and options, and this release is no exception. Both early- and late-model -5s are provided for, with two complete sets of fuselage halves: one with the cutouts for the windows behind the pilot, and one without. It is also worth noting that parts for all three types of cowlings used on Hellcats are included, as well as both types of windscreen, so if you were so inclined you could build a -3 from this boxing as well. However, the cockpit photo-etch is clearly labeled "F6F-5," and there were slight differences in the cockpits of -3s and -5s, so purists beware! Decal markings are given for four aircraft: Cdr. David McCampbell's "Minsi III," "Paper Doll" of VF-27 as flown by Lt. Carl A. Brown Jr. during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, "Death 'n' Destruction" of VF-83, and "71" of VF-20, as flown by Leo Bob McCuddin.
