This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
The XFY-1 was a vertical takeoff and landing fighter planned by the US Navy and built by Convair, nicknamed "Pogo."
This aircraft adopted the tailsitter configuration, taking off vertically with its nose pointed upward, then transitioning in the air to level flight like a conventional aircraft.
Equipped with delta wings advantageous for preventing sudden stalls during vertical-to-horizontal transition, and large vertical fins above and below the fuselage, the XFY-1 was powered by a strong Allison turboprop engine system driving contra-rotating propellers. First flown in August 1954, it became widely known as the world's first aircraft to successfully perform a "conversion flight," vertically taking off, transitioning to level flight, and then landing vertically again, in November of the same year.
This kit is a re-release of the model originally issued by Lindberg in 1958.
