The 747-100 first flew on February 9, 1969. The first revenue flight was for Pan Am, who placed it on the London to New York run on January 22, 1977. The massive and comfortable aircraft drew attention worldwide, and soon became everyone's aircraft of choice.
As with most initial designs, the 747-100 was range and payload limited, thus giving birth to the 747-100. First flown on December 30, 1970, the aircraft entered revenue service with KLM on January 16, 1971. Although a fair amount of 747-100s have been relegated to freight activity, the 747-200 still remains popular with many operators worldwide.
