This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

The U.S. Navy's U.S.S. Des Moines is the first of its class of heavy cruisers, an improved version of the Baltimore class. The Des Moines was laid down in 1945 at the Fore River Shipyard and commissioned in 1948. She was equipped with the world's first automatic loading device for cased charges; she had guns with a firing rate of 10 shots per minute. After commissioning, she engaged in various missions with Newport as her home port, and since 1950 she participated in various training missions in the Caribbean Sea and on the East Coast of the U.S., in the Mediterranean and in the North Atlantic. She served until 1961.
