This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Takao was a heavy cruiser of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the lead ship of the Takao-class heavy cruisers.
Construction began at Yokosuka Naval Arsenal in April 1927, and the ship was named Takao in June of the same year. It was launched in May 1930. After commissioning in May 1932, it was assigned to the 4th Squadron of the 2nd Fleet.
At the start of the Pacific War, Takao participated in southern operations and fought in the Second and Third Solomon Sea Battles in 1942. In 1943, it operated in the central Pacific. After taking part in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944 and the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October of the same year, Takao was docked in Singapore for repairs when it was damaged by British special submarines. It remained moored there until the end of the war.
After the war, Takao was seized by the British Navy and scuttled in the Malacca Strait in 1946, along with Myoko.
