Trumpeter introduces a kit of the Royal Navy Carlisle-class light cruiser, the HMS Calcutta! This full-hull model is slide-molded, for extra delicate details; photo-etched parts are included. Place your order today!
HMS Calcutta was launched on July 9, 1918 at Vickers shipyard. Modified into an air defense cruiser in 1939 and deployed in the Mediterranean.
June 25, 1940 on the Bordeaux Coast, the HMS Calcutta joined the Canadian destroyers HMCS Fraser and HMCS Restigouche to rescue 4000 French refugees besieged by German forces. Due to rough seas, the Fraser and the Calcutta collided, resulting in the sinking of the Fraser, killing 45 crew members on the Fraser, and 19 on the Calcutta.
On June 1, 1941 during the Battle of Crete, the HMS Calcutta was sunk by German Ju-88 bombers in the northern Mediterranean waters of Alexandria, Egypt.
