This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.
Shermaniacs, rejoice! The wait is over! And what we have here is another Dragon masterpiece that was well worth the wait. The best news is that many of the detail problems with Sherman kits that have plagued modelers until now have finally been addressed, such as the addition of raised weld beads on the upper hull, a first in any Sherman kit. This kit recycles some parts from previous releases, but the lower hull has been completely retooled and the complex horizontal volute spring suspension is all new (no hint of the older parts here) and includes metal springs and shock absorber tubes. All tires are separate parts and the road wheels and idlers are fully detailed on both sides. Two choices of upper turret parts are included to model either an early (split loader's hatch) or late (small oval loader's hatch) version. The early T66 tracks are provided as Dragon's Magic Track pre-cleaned and ready-to-assemble link tracks, complete with hollow guide horn detail. Also included is a fret of PE for the fenders (fender support brackets are plastic), but strangely enough Dragon did not include the nice fret of PE for things like the light and periscope guards as included in their other newer kits. The plastic parts supplied are very well done, but it was nice to have the PE option in the previous kits! And to answer an oft-asked question, yes, the grouser covers are indeed molded on (this version should not have them), but Dragon simply instructs the modeler to just shave them off. No big whoop, so there's nothing really to grouse about! The kit comes with all the parts and markings to make Colonel Creighton Abrams' up-armored "Thunderbolt VII" plus markings for three other "standard" Shermans. Also includes optional parts, such as a choice of 76mm barrels and drive sprockets. Periscopes and lights are molded in clear styrene.
The bottom line is that this is one of the finest, most accurate Shermans ever released...there's really never been a better time to be an Allied subjects modeler!
