This product is developed in collaboration with GMU in Ukraine and will be released as a limited edition item. The kit includes GMU-made injection parts, etching, decals, and a newly modeled 3D-printed Type 4 magnetic compass for the front part of the bridge. Kairyu is a two-person winged midget submarine or underwater special attack weapon that attacks enemy ships by torpedo or ramming. Conceived by Lieutenant Commander Uichiro Asano, an instructor at the Naval Engineering School, during development, it was referred to as 'SS Metal' to maintain secrecy. Developed as a special attack weapon for the decisive battle on the mainland, 224 Kairyu were constructed by the end of the war, and about 207 were in production. Unlike normal submarines, Kairyu performs ascent and descent like an aircraft using underwater wings. Its simple structure allowed for quick construction. Kairyu's armament consists of two 45cm torpedoes housed in internal launch tubes. Due to delays in the installation of torpedo launch tubes with mass production, it was decided to equip the bow with 600kg of explosives. Although the Imperial Japanese Navy deployed Kairyu with bases set up in various locations, the avoidance of a mainland decisive battle due to the end of the war prevented its large-scale deployment in actual combat. The completed model will be approximately 494mm in length.
