The Ford V8-G81 Cabriolet is a passenger car manufactured in the late 1930s by Ford Germany, a subsidiary of American Ford, based on the American Ford V8 car. Production lasted from 1938 to 1941, during which time over 8,000 vehicles of this type were produced. With the outbreak of World War II, many Ford V8 G81As were confiscated from private owners and transferred to military units. This type of vehicle was widely used during the Blitzkrieg, as European countries had extensive and well-maintained road networks, but after the start of the Eastern Campaign, poor road conditions made the use of these vehicles impractical. In the fall and spring, road surfaces became unstable, limiting overall road availability. In Germany, the Ford V8 G81 Cabriolet was used primarily as a police vehicle until 1944. Various versions based on the Ford V8 G81A were created, including an open-top convertible. These vehicles were primarily used in combat units as officers' personal vehicles.
