This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.
Based on the venerable Panzer IV chassis, the Bruckenleger ("bridgelayer") IVb tank was created to help the advancing German army cross rivers, ditches, and other otherwise impassible obstacles. But although 20 Panzer IVs were converted, it was found that the nine-meter bridge and deployment apparatus was too heavy for the tanks' suspension, and most were converted back to combat tanks.
Trumpeter's kit of the Bruckenleger IVb consists of a staggering 749 parts, but a good portion of that can be attributed to the optional injection-molded link-and-length tracks (flexible belt-style tracks are also included). That's not to say that there isn't still a ton of parts, as the Panzer IV chassis, suspension, and hull are very detailed and include a partial interior (transmission and driver's station), plus the intricately detailed bridge and its deployment apparatus. Also included are no less than five frets of photo-etched metal detail parts, springs, twine, and metal parts described as "tacks" that look more like rivets. Decal options are included for two early-war vehicles. Bridge can be displayed stowed or deployed. A great kit of a very interesting vehicle!
