This is a spacecraft model.
Red Iron Models brings us a multi-material kit of Sputnik 5, a Russian artificial satellite that successfully carried two dogs, Belka and Strelka, into space and back home to Earth! Launched in 1960, Sputnik 5 also carried 40 mice, two rats, and several types of plants. It was equipped with a TV camera to take photos of the dogs. Sputnik 5 made 17 orbits of Earth and safely returned with all its occupants alive and well. Thanks in part to Sputnik 5's success, Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space the following year aboard Vostok 1. And a year after Sputnik 5 made its triumphant return to its home planet, one of Strelka's puppies was presented by the Soviet Union to Jacqueline Kennedy, the first lady at the time!
This model kit consists of a resin body, photo-etched parts, and wires. Order this piece of "space race" history for your own collection today!
