This is a ship model kit assembled from parts made of resin, white metal, photo-etched metal and possibly other materials.
The Soya, originally named the Volochaevets, was launched from Kawaminami Shipyard in 1938. It was commissioned by the Soviets but never delivered; instead, it was completed as an ice-breaking cargo freighter and joined the IJN for service in 1940, when its current name was bestowed. After WWII, the Soya was remodelled for use in the Japanese repatriation fleet, and in 1950 received further modifications which eventually led to the version this kit represents: the Antarctic research ship.
This kit features breathtaking detail in a large scale, and comes with a wide variety of detail parts out-of-box. Parts to build several on-board vehicles are included, too! Its remarkable packaging includes a durable outer box, with the contents separated further into inner boxes for protection and safe transport.
