The Dodge Charger Daytona was developed with the aim of winning NASCAR, a popular motor sport in the United States. It made its debut in 1969 as a limited version based on the Dodge Charger R/T. The body was designed with aerodynamics in mind, with a 23-inch-high stabilizer wing at the rear and a sharp nose cone at the front, and the end result was a style very different from the base vehicle. The engine was equipped as standard with a 440-cubic-inch, 7.2-liter V8 Magnum, and an optional 426-cubic-inch, 7-liter HEMI V8 engine was also available. The Dodge Charger Daytona participated in the NASCAR series in 1969 and 1970, winning several races and recording the first-ever 200mph speed in the race at Taratega in 1970.
