This is an injection-plastic passenger car kit.
The Volkswagen Golf first appeared in 1974, and has set a benchmark for popular compact cars ever since. The front-engine, front-drive hatchback body has become a familiar concept for small-car manufacturers; the first Golf from 1974 was equipped with a transverse in-line four-cylinder engine. It also adopted the FF system of front-wheel drive. The efficient styling and packaging by Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro has become a global standard as well. The first-generation Golf was also equipped with a high-performance hot hatch and GTI, and is active in circuit racing. It was produced until 1982, at which time it passed the baton to the Golf II.
This kit from AMT/ERTL models the 1978 three-door hatchback Volkswagen Golf, with the high-performance hot hatch GTI. Giugiaro's distinctive body style is accurately modeled, as is the horizontally-placed front-mounted engine. The hood can be opened and closed after completion to admire the engine; the interior, front-drive system and front and rear suspension are also highly detailed. The GTI logo is on the front grille, and the GTI-exclusive front spoiler parts and custom decals are also included. Add this history-making car to your lineup today!
