This is an injection-plastic passenger car kit.

In 1968, the Lotus Europa adopted the epoch-making midship layout; that and the car's lightweight, ground-hugging body resulted in world-class cornering performance. The 1972 Special is the final enhanced version, with a 126-horsepower 1.6-liter in-line 4-cylinder DOHC engine. It came with an optional five-speed transmission and standard aluminum wheels. The body wore pinstripes reminiscent of the JPS-color Lotus that was active in F1 at the time, and the lower part of the side panels was all silver regardless of the body color. This beautiful car was created by Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus who still has fans all over the world.

This kit from Tamiya accurately reproduces the vehicle's low, sharp form; the in-line 4-cylinder DOHC engine uses metal air funnels and photo-etched parts for a realistic appearance. The characteristic Y-shaped backbone frame and front and rear suspension are also realistically modeled. The interior is fully detailed, with seat belts available in red, blue and black for both driver and passenger seats. RS Watanabe 8-spoke wheels and rear wing are also included; the Lotus logo, badge, mirror surfaces are all reproduced with metal parts, and the bumper and mirrors are plated.
