Toyota SORA was first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017 and began lease sales in March 2018. It is the first fuel cell bus in Japan to receive type approval (ZBC-MUM1NAE) from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The Tokyo Metropolitan Transportation Bureau began introducing the buses in March 2018, and 71 units are in service.
