Description

This is a resin-cast aircraft kit.

The XB-51 is a high-speed bomber that was ordered by the United States in 1946. Its first flight was in 1949; the legendary Chuck Yeager was one of the test pilots. Although it received high marks as a low-altitude aircraft, the decision was made not to proceed with its development due to problems with its landing gear and overall durability. The XB-51 is a three-engine aircraft, relatively rare in military aircraft, with two jet engines on the underside of the cockpit and one at the tail. It was capable of carrying various 4,000-pound bombs in its rotary bomb tank, and eight fixed-20mm machine guns were mounted on the underside of its nose (only on the second prototype). It carried two crew members, and the pilot's seat had a bubble canopy like a fighter plane. The second crewmember handled bombing and navigation. The main landing gear was a tandem system with double wheels on the underside of the fuselage, and auxiliary landing gear was installed on the main wing side. This was also the first aircraft by Martin to have an ejection seat.

The parts are accurately 3D printed, precisely reproducing the landing gear and bomb tank; the bomb tank can be built open or closed. You can select from two different types of bombs to equip. Clear parts are included for the canopy, the landing gear can be built in flight or parked, and the auxiliary legs of both wings are also reproduced.

Although anhydrous ethanol is generally suitable for washing model kit parts before assembly, please do not use it with this kit. Generally, cleaning with a neutral detergent is recommended; using acetone may corrode the parts.
