This kit is a must-have for aficionados of passenger aircraft.
The DC-8 is a representative of the first generation of jet airliners, and was the first large jet airliner in the world to make supersonic flights.
It was developed in 1952 as the successor to the DC-7C, and once orders were officially accepted in 1955, it was ordered by not only U.S. airlines but also other airlines including Japan, contributing to the jetization of long-haul routes around the world.
The 30 series was modified for long-haul international flights by adding fuel tanks to the 20 series and extending the wingtips, etc. Three types were manufactured: Type 31, Type 32, and Type 33.
The Type 33 was especially requested by Japan Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines to serve northbound European routes, and was equipped with JT4A-11 or JT4A-12 to increase the maximum takeoff weight to 315,000 pounds.
The landing flaps were also modified to improve fuel economy in cruise flight, and the landing gear was strengthened.
