The M60 debuted fulfilling the requirements for a general-purpose machine gun, but various problems became apparent during actual combat. The E3 version was developed to solve these problems. It was made lighter and the handle and bipod position were improved, but it was eventually replaced by the more reliable M240 machine gun. However, there were also those who appreciated its performance, and the Navy Special Forces SEALs and others continued to use this gun even after the M240 was released. Furthermore, its rugged design became popular in the world of action movies, and it added luster to masterpieces as a "big gun" operated by muscular actors.
