In the early 1970s, California Highway Patrol -- one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the world -- adopted the Kawasaki Z1 (900 Super 4) as a base for the police bike, which mounted the first mass production D0HC Four Engine of the time. With great credibility and maneuverability, it gained even more popularity throughout the Sates after repeated improvements and model changes to the KZ1000C1 Police version, based on the KZ1000A1, followed by the KZ1000MK.II based on the C2-C3 and C4 KZ1000J, based on the P type.

When it came to police bikes, the Kawasaki Police 1000 was the police bike, and it appeared in many movies and TV dramas. Production ceased in 2005, and now its throne has been overtaken by BMW.
