Description
This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
A truly massive Warhawk! We believe this kit, from English maker Vintage Fighter Series, is the first time any variant of the P-40 has been tooled in 1/24 scale. This is their first effort, and while not up to "Tamigawa" standards, it does not look bad and will certainly build up into an impressive kit with a modicum of "modeling skills applied." Panel lines are recessed and a bit heavy, but aside from those and the overdone "fabric effect" on some of the control surfaces, the surface detailing is not bad at all. Some primer and light sanding should take care of things nicely, although a bit more sanding to get rid of the overdone raised rivet detail on the drop tank will be called for. A complete engine assembly is included, and as the upper cowl is removable, you will be able to see this when done. The cockpit also has a decent number of parts, although it does look a bit shallow. Two multi-piece pilot figures are included, as well as rubber tires and a few photo-etched parts. Decals are for four "Flying Tigers" AVG aircraft, side numbers 77, 75, 68, and 21. Plus, the decals from the
"Pearl Harbor Defenders" release (two aircraft) are also included. (Note that the box for all of Vintage Fighter Series' P-40 variants is from this release, however, the correct decals are inside the box!)
